PRIMARY PURPOSE: Employees in this position performs a variety of custodial duties. The Custodian works to maintain the facility and keep it compliance with the regulations of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). This person is resp


  • Open building procedures.
  • Must be reliable and punctual.
  • Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming them as needed.
  • Clean, sanitize and supply restrooms.
  • Clean and sanitize furniture and fixtures.
  • Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors.
  • Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment, in order to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
  • Mow and trim lawns and shrubbery, and clear debris from grounds.
  • Notify managers the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems.
  • Remove snow from sidewalks, driveways, and parking areas, using snowplows, snow blowers, and snow shovels, and spread snow-melting chemicals.
  • requests for appropriate cleaning materials, supplies, tools, and equipment needed to accomplish the job.
  • Maintains an inventory of cleaning and facilities maintenance supplies.
  • Loads and unloads supplies, and moves heavy furniture and equipment as needed.
  • Replaces light bulbs and fuses.
  • Works with management to ensure organization is in compliance with all mandatory codes, rules and regulations.
  • Cleans facility in accordance with daily/weekly checklist.
  • Complete and turn in the daily cleaning check list
  • Must maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Performs related work as assigned.


  • Must have High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum one year of experience in the care and cleaning of buildings.
  • Knowledge of standard methods, practices, tools, and equipment of the janitorial service.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety rules.
  • Knowledge of the proper use of chemicals, fertilizers, and pesticides.
  • Ability to take initiative to resolve cleaning and building safety concerns
  • Ability to operate and use janitorial tools, equipment, and supplies such as floor buffers, vacuum cleaners, and cleaning compounds and solutions.
  • Must have a driver's license and insurance. Must be able to provide a driving record.
  • Must follow NWICDCs driving policy.
  • Must have experience working within Anishinaabe culture, or a strong desire to learn. Willingness to participate in teachings.
  • Some jobs require an employee to be exposed to hazardous work environments, unpleasant and noxious fumes.
  • Some jobs require an employee to work where there is a chance of injury.
  • The job duties require an employee to bend, reach, and stand for extended periods including walking long distances and lifting heavy objects using appropriate body mechanics.
  • Must be OSHA certified or be willing to get certified.
